Rain Lashes Several Parts of Delhi, Brings Relief from Scorching Heat

Updated on Monday, May 04, 2026 08:52 AM IST

Parts of Delhi witnessed a spell of rain on May 4, offering much-needed respite from the intense heat that had gripped the city over the past few days. The sudden change in weather brought relief to residents who had been struggling with soaring temperatures and heatwave-like conditions.

The day began with cloudy skies, and by the afternoon, several areas experienced moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds. As a result, temperatures dropped significantly from earlier highs that hovered around 40 degrees Celsius. The cool breeze following the rain further added to the pleasant conditions, making the weather noticeably more comfortable.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the change in weather was triggered by an active western disturbance affecting northern India. Meteorologists suggest that such conditions may persist for the next couple of days, leading to intermittent showers and relatively lower temperatures across the region.

While the rainfall brought relief, it also caused inconvenience in several parts of the city. Waterlogging was reported in low-lying areas, disrupting traffic movement during peak hours. Commuters faced delays as key roads experienced congestion due to accumulated rainwater. In some localities, strong winds led to fallen branches and temporary disruptions in electricity supply.

Despite these challenges, many residents welcomed the rain as a break from the relentless summer heat. Parks, streets, and open areas saw people stepping out to enjoy the cooler weather after days of discomfort.

Weather officials have advised citizens to remain cautious, especially during sudden weather changes. With more rain likely in the coming days, residents are urged to plan travel accordingly and stay updated with official forecasts.

Overall, the rainfall has not only cooled down the city but also lifted the mood of its residents, even as civic authorities continue to manage the after-effects of the sudden downpour.
