In a significant development in the ‘Kantara’ mimicry controversy, actor Ranveer Singh has received relief from the court, which has quashed the FIR filed against him. However, the court has attached a condition, directing the actor to visit the Chamundi Temple in Mysuru within four weeks.
The case emerged after objections were raised over a mimicry act linked to the film Kantara. Complainants had alleged that the performance hurt religious sentiments, leading to the registration of an FIR against the actor.
During the hearing, the court examined the arguments presented by both sides and found no clear evidence of criminal intent. It emphasized the need to maintain a balance between freedom of expression and cultural sensitivity, ultimately deciding to set aside the FIR.
At the same time, the court underscored that public figures and artists should remain mindful of social and religious sentiments while engaging in performances or public expressions.
